When I first began writing stories for children, I never dreamed that the books would travel the world (from to Cambodia to Haiti to Ukraine!). I never imagined they would find their way into the hands of professors and prison ministers and singer-songwriters and university students. Into nursing homes onto NICU wards, into over 80 languages.

Over the years, Jago and I have created many books together, all of them inspired by our one hope—to let children know that they are deeply loved. 

In every book we have made together we have wanted children to know the truth of the Gospel–they don’t have to be good for God to love them. But that God loved them before they were even born. That He loves them with a Wonderful, Never Stopping, Never Giving Up, Unbreaking, Always and Forever Love. That He just can’t stop loving them, and won’t ever leave them, and came to rescue them, so they could join in with his Forever Happiness. 

The first book Jago and I made together was the best-selling Jesus Storybook Bible. Now with over 6 million sold and translated into over 80 languages. We followed it up with Thoughts to Make Your Heart Sing. And most recently with a series of 6 board books that are simple paraphrases of some of the Psalms. 

And now (drum roll) we have a brand-new book to share with you. We are so excited.

It’s called Jesus, Our True Friend and it’s a collection of seven stories about Jesus. These are stories taken from the Gospels, from the time Jesus was on earth—and they include stories of miracles (like the Wedding at Cana), stories of kindness (like the Good Samaritan), and stories of love and welcome (like the Prodigal Son). They start with a party and they end with breakfast! 

Each story paints a portrait of Jesus not only as our Rescuer, but as our Friend. And we hope these stories fill your heart with joy!

I wrote this book for children, of course. But also for anyone who has ever wondered if they are truly loved. For anyone who needs reminding that Jesus is the Friend who won’t ever leave us, who sticks with us, closer than a brother.
