For Father’s Day…

One of the most beautiful titles God ever gives himself—along with Defender of Widows—is Father to the Fatherless. Isn’t that wonderful? And he loves us not because we do it right. Not because we do anything.

He loves us just because he loves us.

It’s the best news for each of us this Father’s Day.

As you celebrate Father’s Day, I thought you might like some books to help you along…

GRANPA by John Burningham

Adorable Granpa gamely nurses his granddaughter’s dolls, eats her pretend strawberry-flavored ice cream, takes her tobogganing in the snow, and falls in step with her imaginary plans to captain a ship to Africa—like all good grandfathers should. Winner of the Kate Maschler Award, this poignant tale of friendship and loss is one children will long remember.

Little Red Squirrel tries to guess the reason that his daddy loves him—is it because he is a good High Climber, and Brave, and Fast, and Completely Handsome? Could it be because he’s so Friendly? Or maybe it’s because he’s so good at finding Top Secret Berries? The answer is a heartwarming testament to a parent’s love for a child.

The amazing-but-true story about three children and their grandpa and the summer a city fountain was used as a goldfish pond. Makes a great addition to any library– just in time for summer!

Trixie, Daddy, and Knuffle Bunny take a trip to the neighborhood Laundromat. But the exciting adventure takes a dramatic turn when Trixie realizes somebunny was left behind. Using a combination of muted black-and-white photographs and expressive illustrations, this stunning book tells a brilliantly true-to-life tale about what happens when Daddy’s in charge and things go terribly, hilariously wrong.

DADDY KISSES by Anne Gutman

What could be sweeter than adorable baby animals snuggling with their daddies? This simple board book with warm illustrations feature a variety of animals and celebrate the affection between fathers and children. Cuddles and kisses will surely abound when reading this aloud!

One of the best-loved stories of all time, a gripping, heart-wrenching, and wholly remarkable tale of coming-of-age in a South poisoned by virulent prejudice, it views a world of great beauty and savage inequities through the eyes of a young girl, as her father—a crusading local lawyer—risks everything to defend a black man unjustly accused of a terrible crime.

Being a dad isn’t easy – between work, spending time with the kids, the gym that you clearly always go to, and keeping your wife happy, a guy can barely find the time to have a little lie-down now and again. Never fear. The following pages present what I like to think of as one of the most revolutionary advancements in fathering technology: the floor. You walk on it, you put furniture on it, you pay to keep the pipes underneath it running… but have you ever gone swimming in it? Climbed it? Fished in it? Of course you haven’t – and that’s why you’re missing out on a world of mutual enjoyment for you and your kids: one where they experience fun and games they’ve never seen… and daddy gets a precious few minutes of horizontal time. Use with caution; these may improve your life greatly. You’re welcome.

Happy Father’s Day!
