Instagram of the Week: Three Gates

Some people say this is from Amy Carmichael.

Others say is was Sufi. (I grew up being told this by my Welsh grandmother, and I don’t think she was reading Sufi…) But whoever said it first, one thing is clear. It is something we all need to hear. It is something we all need to remember whenever we say anything to each other.

Of course, the order can be changed around, and it still works.

By the time our words have passed through the gates, I wonder how much of what’s on our minds would come out of our mouths…

Thinking before we speak. Why is that so hard?

Let me think about that…

Instagram of the Week happens every Friday! It involves me matching up one of my Instagram photos with a longer quote, funny post, or deeper thought or reflection or just plain silliness. With our kids, I long for their speech to meet all these criteria. When my big kids were little and I heard something come out that sent shivers down my spine, I would remind them of Ephesians 4:29. [29]” Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.” Then, I would ask these 3 questions… is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind?
Good reminder to me that I need to revisit this with my 11 year old, after of course, I revisit it with me! Thanks!
